January 28, 2016 - ICI Metals Inc., Strongsville, Ohio, installed a Tsune TK 130GL automatic cold saw. The saw was needed to boost productivity and reduce cutting times, which will in turn reduce lead times for cut material.

Red Bud to install pickle line in Mexico

January 28, 2016 - Talleres y Aceros (TYASA) ordered a two-cell EPS Coil Line, built by Red Bud Industries, to complete its minimill steelmaking complex in Mexico. The Eco Pickle Surface line will descale hot-rolled strip up to 1.9 mm (0.075-inch) thick and 1830 mm (72-inch) wide in coils up to 33,100 kg (73,000 pounds). Startup is projected for 1Q 2017.

Fiat Chrysler starts up new press

January 22, 2016 - FCA US started production Jan. 22 on its newest stamping press at the Warren Stamping Plant. The automaker invested $63 million to install  high-speed Servo Tandem Press technology (a 180-inch press line) that will increase capacity by up to 12,000 hits per day or approximately 3.6 million parts per year.

ATI to idle two plants, write down flat-rolled assets

January 20, 2016 - Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) says its fourth-quarter 2015 results will include $267 million in pre-tax charges, including $181 million of non-cash, long-lived asset impairment charges for its Flat Rolled Products (FRP) business, and $76 million of non-cash inventory charges. Asset impairment charges include the writeoff of all $127 million of goodwill in the FRP business.
