October 2012 - Gerdau, Tampa, Fla., reused 220 billion gallons of water in the first half of 2012, a result of the company’s investment in modern water treatment systems at its mills. That amount could supply the New York metropolitan area (19 million people) for one year at a daily average consumption of 33 gallons per person, according to Gerdau. By 2015, Gerdau expects to further reduce water volume captured for steel production and increase recirculation rates.
