First Quarter 2014

July 2014 - Metals shipments by distribution companies leveled off during May but inventories dipped more sharply, perhaps because buyers are restricting purchases in anticipation of a seasonal lull that begins around Independence Day. Imports have grown across a wide array of products, including semi-finished steel, cold-rolled sheet, wire rod and hot-rolled bar. Domestic scrap and carbon sheet prices have eased off their spring highs, but manufacturers continue to see opportunity ahead, purchasing managers indicate.
