Flows Two Ways

By Mark Koenig

January 2017 - The installation, conceived and designed Stephen Glassman, measures 60 feet tall by 60 feet wide and marks the artist’s first permanent, large-scale work in New York. To bring his vision to life, Glassman and his studio collaborated with Trojan Powder Coating on the custom color palette for the project. Inspired by the Hudson River’s Native American name and meaning, Muh-he-kun-ne-tuk, or the river that flows both ways, the work showcases the symbiosis between the city and the water. Trojan Powder Coating created and applied the custom shades for Flows Two Ways, coating all the materials, including 35 interlocking aluminum panels, nearly 400 60-foot-long pipe clusters rolled and flowing along three axes, and faceted metal boulders.
