World crude steel production was 143.2 million tonnes (Mt) in July 2017

August 24, 2017 - World crude steel production for the 67 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 143.2 million tonnes (Mt) in July 2017, a 6.3 percent increase compared to July 2016.

China’s crude steel production for July 2017 was 74.0 Mt, an increase of 20.3 percent compared to July 2016. Japan produced 8.6 Mt of crude steel in July 2017, a decrease of -4.3 percent compared to July 2016. India produced 8.4 Mt of crude steel in July 2017, an increase of 3.5 percent compared to July 2016. South Korea produced 6.2 Mt of crude steel in July 2017, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to July 2016.

In the EU, Germany produced 3.5 Mt of crude steel in June 2017, an increase of 3.6 percent compared to July 2016.

Turkey’s crude steel production for July 2017 was 3.3 Mt, up by 27.8 percent on July 2016.

The US produced 7.1 Mt of crude steel in July 2017, an increase of 5.6 percent compared to July 2016.

Brazil’s crude steel production for July 2017 was 2.8 Mt, up by 1.0 percent on July 2016.

The crude steel capacity utilisation ratio of the 67 countries in July 2017 was 72.1 percent. This is 3.2 percentage points higher than July 2016. Compared to June 2017, it is 1.5 percentage points lower.
