Phyllis McNichols Radefeld, founder of the McNichols Company, dies at 94

FL-March-2012_113.jpgJanuary 18, 2018 - Phyllis LaVon McNichols Radefeld (pictured), of Sarasota, Florida, passed peacefully January 9, 2018. Phyllis was a devoted mother and helped her husband Bob McNichols start McNichols Company in 1952.

Phyllis LaVon McNichols Radefeld, of Sarasota, FL, passed peacefully to her Savior on January 9, 2018. She was born on October 21, 1923, in Ft. Wayne, IN, to Wilber Lindenberg and Opal Lindenberg Anderson. After her father died in 1926, Phyllis and her sister Joan (Kohagen) were raised in Cleveland, OH, by her mother and adoring stepfather Herbert Anderson.  After graduating from the Andrew’s School for Girls, in Willoughby, OH, Phyllis worked at Cleveland Trust in Cleveland, OH.  It was there that she met Robert L. (Bob) McNichols (U.S. Army Air Corp, WWII); they were married for 37 wonderful years before he passed. Phyllis was a devoted mother and helped Bob start McNichols Company, a metals service center. She was very active in her Lutheran Church and a number of charities. At age 75, Phyllis married her second husband, Dr. William Radefeld (U.S. Army, WWII), and they enjoyed nearly 20 years of marriage before he died in 2016.  Phyllis was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Her creativity, style, passion, and talents were particularly evident in artwork and cooking throughout her life. Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Barbara (Bob) Ruman of Munroe Falls, OH, and son Eugene (Patsy) McNichols of Tierra Verde, FL, as well as step children Dr. Randall Radefeld (Fran) of Parma, OH, and Gail Radefeld Witt (Bill) of Scottsdale, AZ.  She also was blessed with five grandchildren:  Nicole (David) Ruman Skinner, Jennifer (Earl) Sack, Scott (Ina) McNichols, Amy Ruman, Steven (Michelle) McNichols and ten great-grandchildren. There will be a family memorial service and interment at Sarasota National Cemetery, February 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutherans for Life www.lutheransforlife.org or the Salvation Army http://www.salvationarmyflorida.org/tampa/
