May 15, 2017 - Advanced Gauging Technologies, L.L.C, the premier thickness gauging company in the steel service center market, is introducing a portable, laser thickness measuring system designed for use in applications where space may be limited or where the end user needs the ability to move the gauge between different processes.
The company, which serves customers on four continents, manufactures the gauges in house at its Plain City, Ohio, facility. “Our newest innovation, the AGT600, is a compact, portable optical-based thickness measuring system designed to measure any material that is processed in coil, sheet or strip form,” said Derrick Baker, Industrial Solutions Specialist at Advanced Gauging Technologies and the person who oversaw design of the new product. “It provides fast and reliable thickness measurements as well as statistical process control reporting using the latest in laser triangulation technology.”
The AGT600 complements Advanced Gauging Technologies’ other gauging products. The company also manufactures and sells the AGT400, an isotope thickness gauging system that uses a low-power radiation beam to measure thickness. The AGT800 is a full-size, optical-based laser thickness gauge that measures metals and other materials. While the AGT400 and AGT800 are larger, more permanent gauges, the AGT600 is compact and can be easily moved.
“The AGT600 has simplified hardware and is compact and portable in nature,” said Scott Cook, president of Advanced Gauging Technologies. “Customers can mount the AGT600 on a mobile cart or permanently install it online, as they would our other two gauges.”
The new gauge has several direct benefits to customers, Baker said. While it provides improved productivity and process control, it also reduces the production of scrap and provides detailed material thickness reports to the end users.
“Our isotope and laser thickness gauges have been the industry leading non-contact metal thickness gauges for almost 20 years,” Cook said. “We are proud to produce equipment that is easy to operate, has a solid design and provides excellent results for our customers, setting us apart from competitors.”
