June 29, 2022 -Steel Dynamics Inc. has created a joint venture with Aymium, a producer of renewable biocarbon products.SDI owns 55 percent of the joint venture, with Aymium owning the remaining 45 percent. The JV will operate as SDI Biocarbon Solutions LLC. Initial plans for the joint venture include the construction and operation of a biocarbon production facility to supply Steel Dynamics’ melt shops with a renewable alternative to fossil fuel carbon using Aymium’s patented technology. The initial facility’s production capability is expected to be more than 160,000 metric tons per year, for an estimated capital investment of $125 million to $150 million. The facility should start up late in 2023.“We are proud to help accelerate our collective goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through this partnering with Aymium,” stated Mark D. Millett, SDI’s chairman, president, and CEO. “This joint venture will reduce our steelmaking greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective manner.” Aymium’s process can provide a renewable fossil fuel carbon alternative for Iron Dynamics, he said. "We have successfully trialed Aymium’s biocarbon product in GHG emissions intensity between 20 and 25 percent, with potential upside from the use of the facility’s biogas.“Our mission is to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels and reduce the impact on the environment,” said James Mennell, CEO for Aymium. “Aymium’s renewable biocarbon products allow for immediate replacement of fossil fuels with renewable, carbon negative inputs, without the need to modify existing manufacturing processes or equipment.
Gainesville, GA (June 22, 2022) – For many years, The Harris Products Group has provided financial support for a non-profit just down the street from its Gainesville, Georgia, facility. The organization, Sisu, brings educational, therapeutic, nursing and support services to children with special needs in 16 counties in northeast Georgia. Sisu’s integrated learning environment allows children from 6 weeks to 6 years with special needs to learn and interact alongside their typically developing peers.
This spring, Harris donated $25,000, bringing its total support over the years to more than $285,000. These donations have helped build new classrooms, improved playgrounds and assisted with Sisu’s administrative costs.
“At Harris, we’re proud to continue our annual charity contribution to Sisu, our friend and neighbor,” said Melissa Nolan, Human Resources Manager at Harris. “Over the years, many of our employees have had children enrolled at Sisu and we are happy to be able to support them both financially and as a good neighbor.”
Sisu is a Finnish concept that relates to inner determination, persistence, grit, bravery, resilience, hardiness and indomitable spirit. This is the mindset that Sisu encourages to help these children reach beyond perceived capabilities and take action against all odds.
