The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) is pleased to announce that Maxwell (Max) Hyman has joined as Director of Government Affairs, where he will advance SMA’s advocacy on trade, infrastructure and workforce issues critical to the success of the American steel industry.
Hyman brings a wealth of public policy experience to the role. Prior to joining SMA, he served as director of transportation, infrastructure, and labor policy at the National Association of Manufacturers, where he led policy development and engagement strategies on behalf of the nation’s largest industrial trade association. His background also includes senior roles with U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia), where he built deep expertise in transportation, infrastructure and economic development policies.
“Max is a proven leader with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing America’s manufacturing sector,” said Philip K. Bell, president of the Steel Manufacturers Association. “His experience working with both Congress and in the manufacturing industry will strengthen SMA’s voice in Washington as we continue advocating for steel made by Americans for Americans.”
Brandon Farris, vice president of government affairs at SMA, added: “Max’s policy expertise, strategic thinking and hands-on experience will make him an incredible asset to our team. We’re excited to welcome him to SMA as we champion American-made steel.”
Hyman is a native of West Virginia. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University, a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from Marshall University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from West Virginia University.
