UTRECHT UNIVERSITY, NETHERLANDS- Hundreds of multicolored aluminum panels transform the 1,200 small windows of 400 student apartments into a single entity at Utrecht University. From far away, the building’s exterior appears to be a solid gray, but as a viewer comes closer, the geometric patchwork of shades is revealed. Nicknamed the “Smarties” building, after the candy, Casa Confetti’s colorful design emphasizes the wide diversity of its residents, who come from all over the world.
