Nucor Corporation announced that it will invest $60 million to expand its Nucor Towers & Structures facility in Trinity, Alabama, subject to regulatory and other approvals. The project will add 60 jobs with average annual wages exceeding $87,000 and increase production of steel poles and other steel structures for utility infrastructure.
"Utilities across the country are making significant investments to strengthen and modernize the nation's power grid," said Leon Topalian, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation. "By expanding our Trinity facility adjacent to our Decatur sheet mill, we can combine American-made steel with highly efficient manufacturing to better serve our utility customers and support their long-term infrastructure needs. This investment also builds on Nucor's longstanding commitment to Alabama and its communities."
The Nucor Towers & Structures facility began operations in September 2025 and is located adjacent to Nucor Steel Decatur. The expansion will add production capacity, additional laydown space and a dedicated galvanizing inspection area.
"Nucor has deep roots in Alabama, and we are proud to continue growing our operations in Trinity," said Laurent De Mey, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Towers & Structures. "This expansion will allow us to increase production, better serve our utility customers and create high-quality jobs in the region. We appreciate the support of Governor Ivey, the Alabama Department of Commerce, Morgan County, the City of Decatur, our local chambers of commerce and the many state and community leaders who have helped make this investment possible."
This additional investment will increase Nucor's ability to serve utility customers as they expand, modernize and strengthen the nation's power infrastructure.
Nucor formed its Towers & Structures business in 2022 through the acquisition of Summit Utility Structures LLC and its manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania. The company subsequently opened new facilities in Alabama and Indiana and is constructing a fourth facility in Utah, which is expected to begin operations next year.
Nucor employs more than 2,700 teammates at 12 locations across Alabama, including three steel mills that use recycled scrap as their primary raw material to make new steel products.
